VERONA MARATHON 2016

The idea came early on this year, when I realised that my birthday would fall on a Sunday. Seeing that normally marathons are taking place on the last day of the week, I did not have to think twice, but looked up possible races that I could run to celebrate my anniversary. It cannot help it, but I am a pretty superstitious. I mean I am turning 25 years, hence entering my 26th year of age, so it almost be rude not to run 26 miles on that given day.

SALOMON CAPPADOCIA ULTRA-TRAIL 2016

What a journey. What an unbelievable experience. What a magical feel crossing that finish line in middle of the night. I have taken another step towards Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc 2018, yet this was a pretty special one. Cappadocia Ultra-Trail will go down as my first 100+ kilometre race. To be precise, I run 114 kilometer through central Turkey with a total altitude gain of 3300 meters.

BACKPACKER GUIDE MANDALAY

I originally intended to do cover the entire country in one post, but then I realized that such is incredibly hard to do. There was too much beauty that has overcome my mates and I throughout our time in this magical place on earth. So, I decided to take it step-by-step and write a post about each destination as we wandered along. The first stop: Mandalay.

THE NORTH FACE ENDURANCE CHALLENGE SERIES 2016

The North Face Endurance Challenge Series is a two-day trail running festival that takes place at six different locations in North America. This edition was set in Blue Mountain Resort, around two hours north of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I opted for the Half Marathon distance as a great preparation run for the next big race that is just over a months away. Whilst the long distance races took place on Saturday, the shorter distances, including my 21 kilometers, were scheduled for Sunday.

BACKPACKERS GUIDE BELIZE & GUATEMALA

I spent almost three months in Mexico during the summer of 2012, just before returning to London to watch the Summer Olympics. For the majority of the time I was living in Mexico City, before I decided to fly down to Yucatan to spend a few days at the sea. I hang out with a great bunch of Argentinians that were living in Playa Del Carmen. Marcos was one of them, and we decided to go on a spontaneous road-trip to Belize and Guatemala.

48 HOURS UNTIL MY FIRST ULTRAMARATHON

I have not updated my blog for a pretty long time. Time has literally flown by and three months are gone just like that. Since February, plenty of exciting things have happened, but I shall try to keep this post short and simple. Last time I posted on here, I was intending to run the Marathon in Milan and a couple of weeks later I was aiming to complete my first ultra marathon in Istria, Croatia.

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING, JUST DO IT

In exactly two months I will have completed my first ultra marathon. The 16th April 2016 at 9:00am marks the start of the 69 kilometres edition of the 100 Miles of Istria Ultra-Trail. Up to the sound of the starting gun, I have exactly 60 days left. 1440 hours to reach the top of my game, for the sake of running Croatian mountain trails from Buzet to Umag. Away from the future, wind back just over a week, I happened to run the 79th edition of the Plänterwaldlauf.

A LIFE WITH RUNNING IS BETTER

It’s been a while since I last dropped some thoughts on this blog. Tel Aviv had been the last event, of what I can refer to as my rookie running season. At the end of 2015, I look back at a number of finishes, but above all mind-blowing experiences. I completed the Madrid Half Marathon, as my first-ever running event, before moving on to running two Marathons, one in Madrid and one in Munich. In the meantime, I participated in the Red Bull Wings For Life World Run, before I wrapped up the season with the Coca-Cola Zero Tel Aviv Night Run.

CITY GUIDE TEL AVIV

“There is magic in the city and a scent of infinite possibilities in the air,” my Israeli-born friend rhapsodises about her hometown. Tel Aviv presents the third largest economy in the Middle East, just short of desert superpowers Dubai and Abu Dhabi. ‘Silicon Wadi’, as it is commonly known, has quietly developed itself to be the second most fertile ground for young technology businesses.

COCA-COLA ZERO NIGHT RUN TEL AVIV 2015

“Maktub” is a word of Arabic origin that translates into “it is written” or “it is meant to be.” People that have read “The Alchemist” by Paolo Coelho, or have an Arabic background will have come across this beautiful word before. I will compose another journal about the importance of the word “maktub” for me in the near future. For now, bear with me, as “maktub” guided me to participate in the Tel Aviv Night Run 2015.

AN INDIVIDUAL TEAMSPORT

First and foremost, thank you, thank you all so much for having read, shared or even donated to my cause. It was my first time to organize a fund raiser as such and I had no idea how it would turn out. In the end, we were able to raise a total of €805.00 as a collective, of which I am very proud and thankful for, indeed. It shows what one can achieve by using the power of a community.

MUNICH MARATHON 2015

My second Marathon. My second 42.195 kilometres of running, took me to the city of Munich. Sadly, the prior training did not go as smoothly as I hoped it would. A series of small issues here and there hindered me from the streets and mountains trails for most of the summer. The main problem playing up around the largest joint of the human body, connecting thigh and leg, the Articulatio genus, also known as the knee.

WHY I RUN

Many people have asked me: ”Why do you run?” Why do you run for 42,195 kilometers? Why do you dare to compete in a race that lasts for more than 24 hours? Why? Unfortunately there is no single answer. In fact, there are multiple reasons for “why” I tie my running shoes everyday. Let me begin.

CITY GUIDE MADRID

When it comes to decide upon your next city break, Madrid is most likely not one of those initial destinations you have in mind. London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Lisbon or Barcelona, probably all come before the Spanish capital, which is tucked away in the heart of Spain, at almost 700 meters above sea level. Madrid is not only home to two world-famous football teams, Real, and its bitter rival, Atlético, but also to more than three million people, which makes it rank the sixth biggest city in Europe. Its cultural heritage and historic feel across its neighborhoods turn the city into one of the most livable places in the world according to Monocle. I have resided in this municipality for now almost 10 months, in order to complete my Master's degree.
