Except from a short stint in London last weekend, I have spent the last three weeks in the Austrian alps. I am a passionate skier, and I believe that such is the sport that I have been carrying out the longest. Whilst people are talking about global warming and changing seasons, I can most certainly see a difference in the amount of snow from when I first came to Lech am Arlberg around 20 years ago in comparison to today. Anyways, I will keep the discussion about nature and our world for another post.
Read MoreThe idea came early on this year, when I realised that my birthday would fall on a Sunday. Seeing that normally marathons are taking place on the last day of the week, I did not have to think twice, but looked up possible races that I could run to celebrate my anniversary. It cannot help it, but I am a pretty superstitious. I mean I am turning 25 years, hence entering my 26th year of age, so it almost be rude not to run 26 miles on that given day.
Read MoreWhat a journey. What an unbelievable experience. What a magical feel crossing that finish line in middle of the night. I have taken another step towards Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc 2018, yet this was a pretty special one. Cappadocia Ultra-Trail will go down as my first 100+ kilometre race. To be precise, I run 114 kilometer through central Turkey with a total altitude gain of 3300 meters.
Read MoreIt is already over a month ago that I run Matterhon Ultraks, yet the images and memories are still pretty vivid in front of my eyes. As the name suggests, the race took place in the breath-taking valley around the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Not few say that this is one of the most aesthetic and beautiful mountains on our planet.
Read MoreThe North Face Endurance Challenge Series is a two-day trail running festival that takes place at six different locations in North America. This edition was set in Blue Mountain Resort, around two hours north of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I opted for the Half Marathon distance as a great preparation run for the next big race that is just over a months away. Whilst the long distance races took place on Saturday, the shorter distances, including my 21 kilometers, were scheduled for Sunday.
Read MoreTen hours later and with almost 60 kilometers and over 3500 meters of vertical gain in my legs, I crossed the finish line at around 18:00 in Arco, Northern Italy. I had completed my first-ever Ultra-Trail. I was exhausted. My legs were aching, my energy tanks were empty, but a feeling of accomplishment and joy overshadowed the pain.
Read MoreI have not updated my blog for a pretty long time. Time has literally flown by and three months are gone just like that. Since February, plenty of exciting things have happened, but I shall try to keep this post short and simple. Last time I posted on here, I was intending to run the Marathon in Milan and a couple of weeks later I was aiming to complete my first ultra marathon in Istria, Croatia.
Read MoreIn exactly two months I will have completed my first ultra marathon. The 16th April 2016 at 9:00am marks the start of the 69 kilometres edition of the 100 Miles of Istria Ultra-Trail. Up to the sound of the starting gun, I have exactly 60 days left. 1440 hours to reach the top of my game, for the sake of running Croatian mountain trails from Buzet to Umag. Away from the future, wind back just over a week, I happened to run the 79th edition of the Plänterwaldlauf.
Read MoreIt’s been a while since I last dropped some thoughts on this blog. Tel Aviv had been the last event, of what I can refer to as my rookie running season. At the end of 2015, I look back at a number of finishes, but above all mind-blowing experiences. I completed the Madrid Half Marathon, as my first-ever running event, before moving on to running two Marathons, one in Madrid and one in Munich. In the meantime, I participated in the Red Bull Wings For Life World Run, before I wrapped up the season with the Coca-Cola Zero Tel Aviv Night Run.
Read More“Maktub” is a word of Arabic origin that translates into “it is written” or “it is meant to be.” People that have read “The Alchemist” by Paolo Coelho, or have an Arabic background will have come across this beautiful word before. I will compose another journal about the importance of the word “maktub” for me in the near future. For now, bear with me, as “maktub” guided me to participate in the Tel Aviv Night Run 2015.
Read MoreFirst and foremost, thank you, thank you all so much for having read, shared or even donated to my cause. It was my first time to organize a fund raiser as such and I had no idea how it would turn out. In the end, we were able to raise a total of €805.00 as a collective, of which I am very proud and thankful for, indeed. It shows what one can achieve by using the power of a community.
Read MoreMy second Marathon. My second 42.195 kilometres of running, took me to the city of Munich. Sadly, the prior training did not go as smoothly as I hoped it would. A series of small issues here and there hindered me from the streets and mountains trails for most of the summer. The main problem playing up around the largest joint of the human body, connecting thigh and leg, the Articulatio genus, also known as the knee.
Read MoreMany people have asked me: ”Why do you run?” Why do you run for 42,195 kilometers? Why do you dare to compete in a race that lasts for more than 24 hours? Why? Unfortunately there is no single answer. In fact, there are multiple reasons for “why” I tie my running shoes everyday. Let me begin.
Read MoreLast Sunday, I run 20 miles for joy, whilst they trekked thousands of miles for survival. After I finished my run, I returned home. On the other hand, they never will, as they have lost their homes. With "they", I mean millions of people that have left their country and made their way to seek saver surroundings to live in with their families.
Read MoreA couple of years ago, when my Dad returned from his Mont Blanc expedition, he had bought me a T-shirt, a T-shirt of a race named 'Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc'. I am not saying that was my turning point, but it was my initial contact with this incredible race.
Read MoreIt has been more than two years since I have decided to hang up my hockey stick. After 16 years of playing this wonderful sport, it was surely not an easy decision to be made. Indeed, it took me some time to digest, before I started to think of a new sport that I wanted to pursue.
